Regulation on a one in, one out basis
The Government has announced details of its new “one in, one out” approach to new Regulations, which may please many of you involved with the rapid increase of red tape arising from employment law in the Motor Industry.

From 1st September 2010, Ministers will not be allowed to introduce new Regulations imposing costs on businesses, without identifying current Regulations with an equivalent cost to be removed. Regulation on employment law and health and safety here have been particular areas of criticism from the right wing over the last few years and the Government is now acting to support this new approach.

To support the new regulatory approach the Government has asked a new independent regulatory policy committee to provide evidence/analysis supporting any Regulation and enabled the public and the business community to nominate Regulations on the “your freedom” website, which they believe should be changed see http://yourfreedom.hmg.gov.uk

One of the first areas to be reviewed is indeed a piece of obscure employment legislation (which a few of you may just be aware of), namely that within employers with more than 250 employees, individual employees have the legal right to request time off to carry out training. The right has now been reviewed as part of the Government’s aim of reducing the regulatory burden on businesses.
