Summer 2011
With some Judges relaxing on the golf course or sipping cocktails in the sun, and with listing becoming difficult due to summer holidays, summer is traditionally a quieter time for employment law litigation.  This year appears to be an exception to that rule however and our litigation team are as busy as ever at present defending claims across the country.

In this update we look at some interesting case law developments.  We start with two cases concerning Indirect Discrimination, one on the grounds of religion and the other on the grounds of race and sex.  We then look at case law developments in relation to collective redundancy consultation, statutory requests to work beyond retirement and, finally, a worrying pro-employee case regarding Unfair Dismissal time limits.

Summary of key developments:
  1. Employment Appeal Tribunal case on religious discrimination.
  2. High Court decision on discrimination and dress codes.
  3. Employment Appeal Tribunal case on collective consultation and protective awards.
  4. Employment Appeal Tribunal case on statutory retirement requests.
  5. Employment Appeal Tribunal case on Unfair Dismissal time limits.
