The draft Working Time (Amendment) Regulations 2007 come into force today increasing the
statutory minimum holiday entitlement from 4 weeks to 5.6 weeks to ensure annual leave for the eight public
holidays, as well as the statutory 4 weeks.
Full time workers will eventually receive an extra 8 days minimum
holiday entitlement occuring in two stages - from Oct 1st all workers will be entitled to an additional 0.8
weeks holiday followed by a further change on 1
April 2009 where there will be a further increase of 0.8 weeks holiday.
These amendments will not apply to those workers already receiving at
least 5.6 weeks paid holiday prior to 1 October, ansd there is no
obligation on employers to allow the additional leave to be taken on
public holidays.
